I think the check list for "family friendly" accommodations is just right. I manage several furnished short-term and vacation rental properties and it is amazing how many families with children of various ages do not think to ask or look for some of these essentials.

I guess in order to save money they don't mind fitting in 6-8 persons in a small 2BR condo.

From the perspective of an owner, the wear and tear on properties due to over capacity sure takes it's toll over time.

Families of 6-8 persons really do need a 3BR (+) rental and will have to pay for that feature. After all it is still cheaper than a standard hotel suite.

Good thought on the "safety hazard" question. We were at a vacation rental once with our crawling 1-yr old where we spent every waking moment on the very steep stairs, or redirecting him away from the stairs. It was kinda really annoying. There was slate at the bottom, no railing, and lots of glass at kid-height all down the second flight. Stunningly non-kid-friendly design.

OOh, good catch, Shannon. You're right, a "Paris" slipped in there. Fixed that. Oh you know, Paris....Vancouver... what's the difference, other than one has a really big tower? (just kidding)

Good point about the shared room!
